एक जंगल में एक बंदर रहता था। उसने तालाब के किनारे जामुन के पेड़ पर अपना घर बनाया था। बंदर पेड़ पर लगने वाले मीठे जामुन खाकर अपना पेट भरता था। पेड़ के साथ में जो तालाब था उसी तालाब में एक मगरमच्छ भी रहता था। मगरमच्छ अक्सर तालाब के किनारे जामुन खाने आया करता था।
एक दिन मगरमच्छ जब तालाब के किनारे जामुन खाने आया तो उसने देखा कि ज्यादातर जामुन तालाब में गिर कर या मिट्टी में गिर कर खराब हो गए हैं। मगरमच्छ काफी उदास हो गया। सभी पेड़ पर बैठे बंदर ने मगरमच्छ को देखा। बंदर ने पेड़ से तोड़कर कुछ जामुन मगरमच्छ को दे दिए। जिन्हें खाकर मगरमच्छ बहुत खुश हुआ और उसने बंदर का शुक्रिया अदा किया।
इसके बाद मगरमच्छ रोज तालाब के किनारे जामुन खाने आता और बंदर उसे मीठे जामुन खाने को देता। धीरे-धीरे बंदर और मगरमच्छ में गहरी दोस्ती हो गई।
एक दिन बंदर ने कुछ जामुन मगरमच्छ को घर ले जाने के लिए दिए। मगरमच्छ में घर जाकर वह जामुन अपनी पत्नी को खाने को दिए। जामुन बहुत ही मीठे थे और मगरमच्छ की पत्नी को बहुत ही अच्छे लगे।
जामुन खाकर मगरमच्छ की पत्नी ने पूछा कि ये जामुन कहां से लाए हो ? मगरमच्छ ने अपनी पत्नी को अपने दोस्त बंदर के बारे में सारी बातें बताइए। मगरमच्छ ने कहा कि यह जामुन मेरे दोस्त ने उपहार के तौर पर तुम्हें दिए हैं।
मगरमच्छ की सारी बातें सुनकर उसकी पत्नी ने उससे कहा” यह जामुन कितने मीठे हैं, तो जो बंदर रोज इन जामुन को खाता होगा उसका दिल कितना मीठा होगा”, यह कहकर मगरमच्छ की पत्नी उसे बंदर का दिल लाने को कहती है ताकि वह बंदर के दिल को खाकर इसका आनंद उठा सके।
पत्नी की जिद्द के आगे मगरमच्छ को झुकना पड़ता है और वह बंदर का दिल लाने के लिए राजी हो जाता है।
अगले दिन जब मगरमच्छ तालाब के किनारे जाता है तो वह बंदर को कहता है कि मेरी पत्नी को जामुन बहुत अधिक पसंद आए हैं इसलिए उसने तुम्हें खाने पर आमंत्रित किया है ।
इस पर बंदर कहता है यह तो बहुत अच्छी बात है कि आपकी पत्नी बहुत पसंद आए, लेकिन मैं तुम्हारे साथ नहीं आ सकता क्योंकि मुझे तैरना नहीं आता।
इस पर मगरमच्छ कहता है बस इतनी सी बात तुम मेरे दोस्तों हो इसलिए मैं तुम्हें अपनी पीठ पर बैठा कर लेकर जाऊंगा। बंदर कुछ देर सोचने के बाद इस बात के लिए राजी हो जाता है।
इसके बाद बंदर मगरमच्छ की पीठ पर बैठ जाता है। तालाब के बीच में पहुंचकर मगरमच्छ बंदर को सारी बात बता देता है कि उसकी पत्नी बंदर का दिल खाना चाहती थी इसलिए मैं तुम्हें अपनी पत्नी के पास ले जा रहा हूं ताकि वह तुम्हारे दिल को खा सकें।
इस पर बंदर ने बहुत ही समझदारी से उत्तर दिया यह तो बहुत अच्छी बात है कि मैं अपने दोस्त के किसी काम आ सकूं। लेकिन मैं अपना दिल तो तालाब के किनारे उसी पेड़ पर छोड़ आया हूं इसलिए तुम मुझे तालाब के किनारे ले चलो ताकि मैं अपना दिल लेकर तुम्हारे साथ चल सकूं।
बंदर की इस बात पर मगरमच्छ को आसानी से यकीन हो गया और वह तालाब की ओर मुड़ गया। जैसे ही मगरमच्छ तालाब के किनारे पहुंचा बंदर कूदकर पेड़ पर चढ़ गया और मगरमच्छ से बोला ,” हे मूर्ख मगरमच्छ तू मेरी सच्ची दोस्ती के लायक नहीं है”।
यह सुनकर मगरमच्छ बहुत शर्मिंदा हुआ लेकिन अब देर हो चुकी थी उसमें बंदर की सच्ची दोस्ती को हमेशा के लिए को दिया था।
शिक्षा – बंदर और मगरमच्छ की इस कहानी से हमें यह शिक्षा मिलती है कि हमें कभी भी अपने दोस्त को धोखा नहीं देना चाहिए।

A monkey lived in a forest. He built his house on the bank of the pond on the berry tree. The monkey used to fill his stomach by eating the sweet berries growing on the tree. A crocodile also lived in the same pond that was next to the tree.
The crocodile often used to come to the bank of the pond to eat berries. One day when the crocodile came to eat berries on the banks of the pond, he saw that most of the berries had got spoiled after falling in the pond or in the soil. The crocodile became very sad. At that time the monkeys sitting on the tree saw the crocodile. The monkey plucked some berries from the tree and gave them to the crocodile.
